Penny Dunne qualified as a Solicitor in 1980 but no longer practices law.In 1990 she trained as a family mediator with the Family Mediators Association. She was involved in the development and regulation of family mediation nationwide from 1993 to 1999, first on the Board of the Family Mediators Association and subsequently as Chair of the Professionals Standards Committee at the UK College of Family Mediators. She was trained in direct consultation with children in 2004. Penny practices in Eastbourne.

All the FMIS mediators are members of the Family Mediators Association and have met its requirements as to competent practice and work to its standards. They are all recognised to conduct publicly funded mediation by the Legal Services Commission
